What was ultimately a ‘home game’ for Brandon Wimmer on Wednesday night at the Kokomo Speedway, did not go quite the way the Fairmount, IN driver hoped when it was all said and done.

“Our night started off pretty good, as we were really good in practice, but in time trials we just missed it and that hurt us,” he said.

With 43 cars assembled in the pit area, Wimmer turned in the 25th quickest lap of the night, putting him and his Destiny Motorsports team in a bit of a bind.

Starting in the seventh position in his heat race, Wimmer did a great job of working himself into the fifth and final transfer spot, as he held off Sammy Swindell in doing so.

When the checkered flag dropped, Wimmer had big issues, as a torsion bar stop on his machine broke, sending his car into the wall with heavy damage. The damage was so bad the team was forced to pull out a back up car.

“We had a great race with Sammy in our heat, and when the race ended the stop broke and sent us into the wall,” he said. “The way it went down, everyone though Sammy Swindell helped us get in the wall, but he just had nowhere to go.”

Scrambling to get the back up car ready, Wimmer and his team were able to make the call, and started 24th in the feature event.

In what was a very racy, and entertaining feature event, Wimmer was able to move around on the speedway, and work his way up to a 17th place finish when the race concluded.

“The way the night started, I was feeling pretty good about our stuff, and thinking we could have a good run,” he said. “Unfortunately qualifying killed us, but we raced pretty well in the heat, and in the feature we just got stuck in the back, and couldn’t do much.”
