Climbing back aboard the Indy Race Part No. 71 machine, Shane Stewart bested a strong field of cars at the Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN to score his eighth win of the 2013 season.
Planning to get back to Knoxville and take on the World of Outlaws, the team made a last minute change, and set their sites on the MOWA in Indiana.
Starting sixth in his heat, the Bixby, OK native got up on the high-side, and moved up to a fourth place finish, putting him in the feature event.
With a lack of passing points, Stewart found himself starting in the fifth row, of the feature, but that didn’t deter the four-time Knoxville 360 National’s winner.
Working the high-side, Stewart looked to be untouchable, as he carved through the field with relative ease.
Once he got into third, Stewart had his hands full with the lead duo of AJ Burns, and Gregg Wilson.
Getting past Wilson to take over the second spot on the 12th lap, Stewart motored around second starting Burns to grab the lead on the 15th lap.
Once out front, Stewart rocketed away for the feature event win in dominating fashion.
“Anytime you can win a race from the fifth row is pretty special,” Stewart said. “My guys have me a great car, and it was fun to come out here and pass some cars. We would of liked to be a Knoxville, but it is great to still string together a great run.”
2013 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-39, Wins-8, Top 5’s-20, Top 10’s-24.
