NEW EGYPT, NJ . . . . . The super-fast winged 410 sprint cars predominantly a central Pennsylvania dirt track racing staple, will march eastward to New Jersey’s New Egypt Speedway on Tuesday night, August 20 for the once-a-year JERSEY RUSH presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Pioneer Pole Buildings. While the heavy hitting regular drivers and teams that race at Williams Grove, Port Royal and Lincoln Speedways each week will provide the bulk of the entries, two of New Egypt Speedway’s Modified regulars will be making their 410 sprint car debuts-and a 410 regular will be taking his first Modified green flag.
Ryan Godown, Ringoes, N.J. defending New Egypt Modified champion, and Neal Williams, Pittsgrove, N.J. second year Modified wheelman, will make their first starts in 410 Sprints at the third annual JERSEY RUSH in addition to campaigning their Modifieds. Godown will come to post for the first time in a Sprint Car provided by Bordentown, N.J. 410 driver Davey Sammons. Sammons will make his first start in a Modified fielded by Godown’s race shop.
The double duty driving of Godown and Sammons has been made possible through the efforts of their mutual sponsor, EG Auto & Tire Center of Dayton, NJ owned by local time race car owner John Chemidlin. Williams, whose car owner Fred Vahlsing also owns New Egypt Speedway, will saddle up for the first time in a Sprint Car recently purchased
for him.
Godown and Williams will have their hands full taking on a quality-laden 410 Sprint field that is expected to include Greg Hodnett, Mark Smith, Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer, Danny Dietrich, JJ Grasso, Ryan Smith, Billy Pauch Jr., Robbie Stillwaggon and Sammons. The 410 sprints will chase a $5,000 to win payoff plus $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green as the modified feature winner will collect a $3,000 payday for 30 laps.
Sammons, Godown and Williams are expected to be challenged in the Modifieds by New Egypt Speedway’s most prolific feature winner Billy Pauch and recent feature winner Willie Osmun among three dozen anticipated entries. Expected invaders should include last year’s JERSEY RUSH Modified winner Jimmy Horton, Craig Von Dohren, Frank
Cozze and Rick Laubach.
Making the Modified portion of JERSEY RUSH III even more interesting, event organizers have created a blend of rules to bring together the Big Block Modifieds and the PA/New Egypt Legal 358 Modifieds. Big Block Modifieds will have a 467 cubic inch limit, they must run with windows only, and on gas with a weight of 2,500 pounds. For the
PA/New Egypt Legal 358 Modifieds, sail panels are allowed, gas with a weight of 2,275 or alcohol with a weight of 2,350. Nine-to-one compression ratio Steel Block engined cars will have a weight of 2275. American Racer Tires will be required (no stamp necessary) with the fronts at 33 or harder, the left rear at 44 or harder and the right rear at 48 or harder. This blend of rules was designed to attract drivers from various speedways and should bring together a vast number of talent laden entries.
With New Egypt regulars making their 410 Sprint debuts, a big field of 410 Sprinters already entered and an innovative Modified rules formula designed to be all-inclusive, JERSEY RUSH III is taking shape as one of the most anticipated auto racing events in the state of New Jersey.
The NAPA Auto Parts/Pioneer Pole Buildings JERSEY RUSH III will get underway at 7:30 PM, with gates opening at 5:00 PM . The extremely popular 410 Sprint Car Pit Side Meet &
Greet, always a highlight of this event, allows race fans to enter the pit area from 5:00 PM, to 6:00 PM.
This huge event is a co-promotion between Lenny, Danny and Davey Sammons and special events organizer Bob Miller.
