CORNWALL, Ontario, (August 25, 2013)- On a critical weekend in determining the 2013 PST Canada Champion, Jason Barney refused to let Steve Poirier sweep the features and put himself right back in the mix heading in to the final event.

Barney, of Constantia, NY, reeled in Poirier in lapped traffic on lap 16 to score his first victory at Cornwall Motor Speedway for his second PST Canada win of the year.  In a stacked 25-car field including competitors from the Southern Ontario Sprints and CAOSS Series, Barney did the nearly-unthinkable to chase down Poirier at a track he is so dominant at.

Barney started in fourth while Poirier went away from the seventh position after a poor redraw.  As Patrick Vigneault showed the way through multiple restarts early in the event, it was Poirier who ran up through the field and took the lead on a lap 4 restart.  It appeared the No. 28FM would drive away but as the leaders caught the back of the pack, Barney began to find speed on the inside groove, a line that had been Poirier’s money line in his four sprint wins at the tiny ¼-mile oval.

Barney took second away from Vigneault at halfway on the bottom and then pulled off a similar maneuver to take the lead from Poirier coming to the competition of lap 17.  The final eight laps would be without issue for the No. 87 as he would score his fifth PST-sanctioned win of his career.

With the win, Barney was able to negate Poirier’s edge he had built up a night earlier at Brockville when Poirier made a late pass on Barney.  Heading in to the PST Canada Championship at Brockville in October, Poirier will have a narrow 3-point edge over Barney.

Behind the top two was a spirited battle for third with Patrick Vigneault holding off late challenges from Jared Zimbardi for the final podium position.  Zimbardi pulled alongside the No. 55 with five to go but could not complete the pass and would have to settle for fourth.  Jamie Collard would round out the top five.

Etienne Girard had a solid sixth place showing, while Kevin Ward Jr. made another impressive charge forward to place in seventh.  Chris Jones, Original Pizza Logs Dash Winner Jeff Cook and local Lee Ladoucuer completed the top 10.
