Shane Stewart had a busy month of September as he traveled the country competing against various 360ci and 410ci sanctioning bodies, but the one that highlighted them all was Stewart’s third Candaian National’s triumph at the Ohsweken Speedway aboard Joe Gaerte’s owned No.3G.
“It was a month that feature a ton of traveling, and though I didn’t’ have a great WoO trip out west, it was nice to get up to Canada and win their National’s,” Stewart said.
Starting on the front row of the prestigious race along side Steve Poirer, Stewart got off to a strong start as he took the early lead, but ultimately had his hands full with a pesky Poirer.
Finally shaking free of Poirer, Stewart was strong on that night, as he was able to nail a few restarts en route to his third event win.
During the “Night Before the Nationals’, Stewart flexed his muscle and showed that he would be a contender on Saturday night, as he charged form his second row starting spot to run second in his 15-lap preliminary night feature to Bryan Howland.
The start of the month saw Stewart hook up the Finley Farms Racing to take on the World of Outlaw tour out West, and the trip did not go as Stewart or the Finley’s would have hoped.
At the Gray’s Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA, Stewart started in the 14th spot, but was able to work his way up to a sixth place finish at the line.
Heading South into Oregon, Stewart opened the trip up with a 23rd place finish, before recording an 11th place finish in the Cottage Grove ‘B’ Main.
At the Gold Cup Race of Champions the Bixby, OK native had a solid opening night going as he ran inside the top-three until suspension issues hampered him and he slipped back to a fourth place finish at the line.
During the Gold Cup finale, Stewart fell victim to a multi-car pile up, and was credited with a 21st place finish.
To close out the West Coast swing, Stewart struggled at the Antioch Speedway as he failed the make the feature event.
Heading back to the Midwest to close out the month of September, Stewart teamed back up with the 3G Racing team, and scored a second place finish in Berlington, MI after leading much of the feature, before finishing 10th at the Fremont Speedway against the World of Outlaws.
“I really have to thank both the Finley Farms team, and the Gaerte team for gving me the opportunity to race a handful of times in September,” Stewart said. “I wish we could of hung up a few more wins, but all in all it was a decent month, and I look forward to closing out 2013 with both teams on a strong note.”
