Returning to his native Australia on the heels of a red-hot start in the United States, Kerry Madsen and his Keneric Racing team had a strong weekend at the Motorplex as they scored the win on Friday night before a second place finish closed out the weekend on Saturday in Kwinana, AU.

“It was great to get down here and do well, and even pick up a win,” Madsen said. “We ran the American Racing scheme that we will run in the US all year, and it is really cool to get a win in Australia with their colors flying, and we can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for us for the 2014 season.”

With 39 cars in the pit area, Madsen timed his American Racing/Keneric Racing entry in 13th fastest putting him in heats one and five.

Lining up sixth in the first heat, Madsen found the top of the speedway to his liking, as he raced his way around the field, and picked up the win. In the second heat, Madsen started in the fifth spot, and was able to work his way to a third place finish.

After the points were tallied, Madsen found himself on the front row of the feature event, and that is all he would need.

Sharing the front row with Steven Lines, Madsen was hard on the throttle when the green flag waived, and jumped out to an early lead.

Working the middle of the speedway, Madsen was flawless during the feature event, as he kept the WSS Championship contenders at bay, and picked up his second win of the 2014 season.

Back in action on Saturday night, Madsen had a bit of tough luck to get the night going, but he would rebound and turn it into a very strong finish.

Lining up last in the first heat based on two-day event points, Madsen had rear-end issues and he was unable to get any laps in.

Starting second in his second heat, Madsen jumped out to an early lead, but with just a few laps to go, mechanical gremlins got him again, and he was unable to finish his second heat of the night, but was able to sneak into the Dash.

Laying down some great laps in the Dash, Madsen was able to overcome his early issues and put his Keneric Racing/American Racing No. 29 machine on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.

When the green light flickered on, Madsen got the jump for the second night in a row, and began laying down some impressive laps, as WSS title contender, Brooke Tatnell, chased after him.

As the laps clicked off on the slick surface, Madsen continued to look stout out front, and well on his way to a weekend sweep.

With just a few laps remaining, rubber began building up on the speedway, and Madsen dropped to the low side of the speedway to protect his lead, but as he did that, Tatnell stayed high, and got by to take the lead, and go on to pick up the win, while Madsen settled for second.

“I cannot say enough about this entire organization,” Madsen said. “We came down here to have some fun for a couple of weeks, and we were competitive both nights. We had the car to beat both nights, but on Saturday it started taking rubber, and I dropped low to find it, but Tatnell made a pass on the high side.”
