Gary Bettenhausen Passed Away on Sunday

Indianapolis, IN — (March 17, 2014) — Open wheel race car driver Gary Bettenhausen passed away on Sunday at the age of 72.  Bettenhausen was born and Tinley Park, IL  Bettenhausen made 21 starts in the Indianapolis 500 with a best finish of third place and nearly winning the 1972 race until his car had mechanical issues.  Bettenhausen was also a two time USAC National Sprint Car and Silver Crown series champion.  Bettenhausen was inducted into both the National Sprint Car and Midget Car Halls of Fame .
