Grant Anderson was left with a mixture of emotions after his third-place finish in last Saturday night’s $10,000 to Win Sprintcar Sizzler at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway.
After the $10,000 to Win Sprintcar Sizzler event was postponed due to the wet weather the previous weekend, Anderson, who had qualified second for the feature race, returned last Saturday night to compete in the 35-lap feature race.
On what was a ‘hooked up’ Valvoline Raceway track that made passing difficult, Anderson was able to get the jump over his rivals and move into the lead. He then built up a healthy lead over his rivals and stayed out in front until the closing stages. On lap 28 amongst dense lapped traffic, Anderson was passed on the inside for the lead by Robbie Farr, and then while attempting to reclaim the lead from Farr two corners later, he drifted off track slightly and was then passed for second by Jackson Delamont. For the remainder of the distance, Anderson stayed in third.
“I felt that it was the race that got away from me,” Anderson said. “It was a tough track for everyone out there, but I made the wrong decision with some lapped cars and it cost me the lead. My car was a lot better than a third-place car.”
For Anderson, this was his second podium finish at Valvoline Raceway this season, after he finished second behind Trevor Green in the Scott Darley Classic back in January.
The previous weekend, Anderson had qualified 18th in time trials and then finished his heat race in second place. He had qualified second for the dash the following Saturday night, but it was cancelled due to the approaching wet weather on the night.
Anderson is set to return to action for the annual three-night Easter Trail in just over a fortnight’s time. The opening night of the Easter Trail will be held at Avalon Raceway (Geelong, Vic) on Good Friday (April 18), then the second night at Borderline Speedway (Mount Gambier, SA) on the Saturday night (April 19) and the third and final night at Premier Speedway (Warrnambool, Vic) on the Sunday night (April 20).
