Park City, KS — (April 1, 2014) — Jordan Weaver is getting the hang of winged 360 sprint cars.
Weaver nearly captured a spot in the NCRA feature during the 4th annual Air Capital Shootout last Saturday at 81 Speedway, which marked only her sixth career start in a winged 360 sprint car.
“I haven’t ran 360 winged cars that much,” she said. “They are quite a bit different. I need to be aggressive on the start of the race a little more and focus on being smooth.”
Weaver opened the event last Saturday by rebounding from a slow start in her heat race.
“On the first lap I got a bad start,” she said. “I didn’t have the forward bite I needed and ended up going into turn one in eighth. I got my composure and focused on being smooth and keeping my momentum up on the bottom.”
Weaver rallied to pick up a trio of positions before the checkered flag. That sent her to the B Main, which Weaver started on the outside of the third row.
“I got a pretty good start,” she said. “I ended up fourth going into turn one. I ran third for three or four laps and then got to second.”
Weaver was in contention for the consolation victory before a caution with approximately five laps remaining bunched the field back up.
“I made a mistake going into turn one and got passed,” she said. “I didn’t go in high enough. I tried playing it safe and ended up losing quite a bit of speed. Then, on the final lap in the final corner I got slid and missed the final transfer by one. We ended up side by side going down the straightaway and he barely got me.”
Weaver was credited with a fourth-place result after narrowly picking up a transfer to the feature.
She is scheduled to take this weekend off before returning to action on April 12 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and April 13 at West Siloam Speedway in West Siloam, Okla., with the ASCS Sooner Region.
