TULSA, Okla. (April 28, 2014) – The Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region opens the month of May at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas on Friday, May 2 and the Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas on Saturday, May 3.
The seventh and eighth rounds of competition on the 2014 slate, the weekend will be a lucrative one for the Gulf South Region.
Friday in Beaumont will award a $2,500 top prize for the 11th annual John Bankston Memorial and pays $300 to start the A-Feature thanks to series sponsor, Griffith Truck and Equipment. Gates open at 6:00 P.M. with races beginning at 7:45 P.M. (CT). Support classes include: Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and Limited Modifieds. The Golden Triangle Raceway Park opened the 2014 season for the Gulf South Region on March 14 with Iowa’s Jon Agan taking the win.
Saturday in Highlands will up the winner’s share to $3,000 for the 12th annual Ronald Laney Memorial and will award $325 to start the A-Feature. On top of that, Heat Races will pay $100 to win, and B-Features will pay $200 to win courtesy of the Laney family. Joining the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region will be the Eco Stocks, Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Limited Modifieds, and Dwarf Cars. Pursuing the ASCS National Tour in 2014, points leader Blake Hahn is scheduled to be in Oklahoma and Arkansas this weekend. Channin Tankersley is poised to assume the lead as he trails Hahn by 37. Chris Sweeney is currently third in driver standings with Aaron Reutzel and John Pate making up the top five.
In the Region’s last visit to the Battleground Speedway on April 4 and 5, Seth Bergman and Jason Johnson took the winning checks.
