– LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. (April 29, 2014) – Joe Trenca put together his best performance of the season last Friday at Can-Am Motorsports Park with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.
“The track was unlike it usually is,” he said. “It was real, real fast. I don’t think I took a breath in hot laps. I knew the key was to get a good start.”
After lining up on the outside of the third row of his heat race, Trenca picked up a trio of positions in turns one and two during the opening lap of his heat race. He finished with a third-place result, which earned him a spot in the feature redraw.
Trenca then pulled the No. 3 in the random draw to start on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“I was trying to get the jump on the start and missed it a little bit,” he said. “We were in third and fourth for a couple of laps. We went in turns three and four one lap and I didn’t realize it was rubber down as bad. I missed the rubber on the bottom and slid up top. Probably 10 cars got by us.”
Trenca lost about a dozen positions before rebounding in the closing laps.
“I found the middle in turns one and two late in the race and picked off five or six cars after that,” he said.
After maneuvering back into the top 10, Trenca was forced to check up to avoid a car on the final lap and another competitor made the pass. Trenca ended with an 11th-place result, which was his best of the season.
He is set to compete this Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in Canandaigua, N.Y., with the Patriot Sprint Tour and on Sunday at Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne, N.Y., with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.
“I definitely feel more confident going into this weekend,” he said. “We’re going to a couple of tracks that I like.”
