– WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (May 6, 2014) – Seth Bergman ended on a high note after kicking off last weekend with a frustrating night.
Bergman earned the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Hard Charger Award on Saturday after rallying from the B Main to a seventh-place result during the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass main event at Riverside International Speedway.
“To end the weekend on a solid note like that is good,” he said.
Bergman opened the doubleheader weekend with the premier 360ci sprint car series on Friday at Outlaw Motorsports Park in Wainwright, Okla., by finishing where he started – seventh – in his heat race.
“I had engine problems and had to change engine problems after the heat race,” he said.
After starting ninth in the B Main, Bergman quickly advanced into a transfer position before another driver collided with him during the first handful of laps. Bergman spun out and was forced to restart last.
“I think I was more mad than anything,” he said. “It had been a frustrating night up to that point and to get taken out, it felt like it was one of those nights where everything was working against you.”
Bergman rebounded to make the pass for the final transfer position coming to the white flag. That lined him up last – 22nd – in the 25-lap main event.
“I thought I was going to be a lot better than I was,” he said. “I think I didn’t keep up with the race track as well as I should. It got me too far behind to make up the ground. Without any cautions it’s hard to come back.”
Bergman ended with a 17th-place result.
The team then made the long haul to Arkansas for Saturday’s Rock ‘N Roll 50, which is the event where Bergman captured his first career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature victory in 2012.
“We had a tough night there,” he said. “In the heat race we were better than where we finished.”
Bergman ended fourth in his heat race, which started him on the outside of the front row of the B Main. He finished second in the consolation race to transfer to the 50-lap feature.
“At that time I was pretty much ticked off about the whole weekend,” he said. “I was determined on getting to the front as fast as I could. I had the same mentality as the night before, just go where they aren’t. If you’re that far back you have nothing to lose.”
Bergman charged from 18th into the top 10 before a lengthy red flag with 16 laps remaining.
“That red didn’t help us,” he said. “It let guys gain some composure. Up to that point I was on a mission. When we went back green those guys in front of me were smart racers and they were good, too.”
Bergman’s seventh-place finish marked his ninth top 10 of the season.
He enters the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., this Thursday ranked eighth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings. It will be his first race at the track.
