Ohsweken, ON – (May 27, 2014) – Ohsweken Speedway’s 19th season of racing continues this Friday, May 30 when Styres Gas Bar presents weekly racing for the Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.
JAMIE COLLARD/DUANE MAUSTELLER RECOVERY FUNDRAISER
Ohsweken Speedway regular Jamie Collard and Pennsylvania driver Duane Mausteller suffered serious injuries in a crash at the Empire Super Sprints tour event at Selinsgrove Speedway on May 17. A group of fans and friends have organized several fundraising activites at Ohsweken starting this Friday to help Jamie and Duane during their recoveries.
A raffle is planned with some great prizes available, including a big screen TV, Toronto Blue Jays tickets, World of Outlaws Sprint Car series tickets, and Canadian Sprint Car Nationals tickets, plus much more. Raffle tickets will be available at both the front grandstand gate, and pit gate, as well as from Hill’s Racing Team members. The raffle draw date is set for Friday, June 6. Ohsweken Speedway drivers will also pass the helmet for Jamie and Duane in the front grandstand and pit grandstand during intermission this Friday.
CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
Glenn Styres claimed the season-opening feature win for the 360 Sprint Cars for the third straight year last Friday, and his 20th overall at Ohsweken. Mikey Kruchka, Mitch Brown, 2010 champion Dave Dykstra, and 2011/2013 champion Jim Huppunen also started their 2014 Ohsweken seasons off on good notes, as they finished in the top 5 behind Styres. Both Kruchka and Brown have feature wins with the Southern Ontario Sprints tour already this year, and served notice with their podium finishes that they will be strong at Ohsweken too.
STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Ryan Hunsinger won the first ever Crate Sprint Car event at Ohsweken last Friday, with Brad Herron, Jake Brown, Paul Lang, and Robbie General coming home with top 5 finishes. Aaron Turkey had a solid run going as well, but dropped out of the race with a broken rear end. A total of 11 drivers competed in the first race for the new division, which is expected to grow as the season continues.
AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
Wyatt Van Wart started his season with a feature win last Friday, while Karl Sault, Billy Bleich, Jr., Dave Bailey, and Lee Winger came home in the top five. They are just a few of the many drivers expected to challenge for wins this year, as a strong field of 32 Thunder Stocks were on hand last week, while more are expected in the coming weeks.
HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Jeremy May started at the front and stayed ahead of his challengers to take the feature win in a borrowed car last Friday. Tyler Lafantaisie, Jon Janssens, Lucas Lubin, and Jason Lungaro took top five finishes, will be among a strong field of Mini Stock championship hopefuls this season, which numbered 30 on opening night.

Joe DeBoer slipped by Dusty DeBoer to take the feature win in traffic last Friday, but Dusty will be strong as he looks to repeat as the Bomber champion. Dusty took the runner-up spot last Friday, followed by Gillian Hils, Paul Longboat, and Ashton Reekie, who started their seasons with top five finishes.
