(Lebanon, IN) The Mel Kenyon Midget Series returns to the Coles County Speedway in Mattoon, IL this Saturday night. The USSA midget series has competed twice on the banked dirt track, each with a different winner.
Cordy Horn picked up the win in 2013, temporarily putting the brakes on Spencer Bayston’s drive to the 2013 championship. In May of this year, Colten Dooley grabbed the checkers ending Travis Young’s two win early season run. Horn followed Dooley home in second.
Following an intense Labor Day weekend schedule that saw the Mel Kenyon Midget Series race three times in two days with three different winners, series point leader Cole Fehr will take a 43 point lead over Jessica Bean onto the clay banks of Coles County Speedway.
Bean carries a 42 point cushion on Dooley who relinquished the 2nd spot for the 1st time in five races. Horn missed several weeks early in the season with a back injury and while out of the points race, his record at Coles County, a 1st and a second, puts him in the conversation about potential winners.
Coles County Speedway opened in 1955 and is the oldest continuously operated track in the State of Illinois. Hot laps will begin at 6:00 PM with racing to follow at 7 PM. All times are Central Daylight Time.
