After his scheduled opener was rained out just one week ago, Ian Madsen and his G&B Goodyer Developments team hit the track on Saturday night at the Brisbane International Speedway, and ended their night in victory lane.
“It’s the best you can start,” Madsen said with a smile. “We still have a little bit of work to do, but to start the way we did, and improve as the night went on, is a huge testament to this team.”
Timing his D&B Goodyer Developments/MK Excavating/Adornato Sand and Gravel No. 10 machine in 10th quickest in time trials, Madsen did not get the result he was looking for in his first heat race, before he picked up the win during his second race.
Lining up in the third row of the shootout, Madsen would surge to the lead, and walk away from the field as he picked up the win, and put his machine on the pole for the 30-lap main event.
Sharing the front row with Australian Champion, Dave Murcott, Madsen jumped out to the early lead on what was an extremely slick surface. While out in front, Murcott would attempt to challenge Madsen, but Madsen looked to be too good on this night.
A late race caution bunched the field back up, and with Murcott looking for room, Madsen was brilliant on the restart and was able to maintain the top spot, as he kept his challenger at bay.
Over the final seven markers, Madsen was flawless, as he raced his way to his first win of the season with his D&B Goodyer Developments team, and his 13th overall in 2014.
“I can’t thank this team enough for all of their hard work,” Madsen added. “We worked hard all night and got better each time we hit the track. To win this one with Darren and Belinda Goodyer here watching made this race that much more special.
Madsen would like to thank D&B Goodyer Developments, MK Excavating, Adornato Sand & Gravel, Watsons Express Transport, Lucas Oil, QSS Speedway Spares, Revolution Racegear, Oval Express, and Dyden Signs for their support.
