The Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA is known for being a high speed facility that keeps fans on the edge of their seats. After hosting one of the nation’s premier 360 events for the last 21 years, the Trophy Cup, the region’s premier 360ci series will make their first ever appearance at the track on Saturday night.
Marking the series’ fourth stop of the 2015 schedule, the 1/3 mile oval will host the series in what will be the lone 360ci event leading up to October’s famed Trophy Cup. With the chance to hit the Thunderbowl Raceway early in the season, the star-studded series expects to have a very talented field of drivers on hand for the event.
Over the years, the Civil War Series has been very competitive and as of late, it has featured a ton of parody. After seeing only one repeat winner during the 2014 season, the series has seen three different winners in three races to kick off the 2015 season, including wins by the last two series champions, and the series’ current point leader.
In the series’ most recent race at the Calistoga Speedway on April 11th, it was Sean Becker going toe-to-toe with reigning series champion, Shane Golobic. In the series’ first visit to the ½ mile facility since 2012, the race led up to the hype, as Becker used a late race move to grab his first Civil War win since the 2013 season.
Current point leader, Sebastopol, CA driver, Bradley Terrell, leads the series into the Thunderbowl Raceway on Saturday night on the heels of picking up the series’ second round win at the Petaluma Speedway, as well as grabbing a weekly win at the track this past Saturday night. Terrell has been a consistent front runner thus far in 2015, and looks to add to his lead on Saturday night.
Justin Sanders and his F&W Racing team have had a strong start to the season. Following a Top-10 run at the Calistoga Speedway, Sanders too grabbed a win last weekend at the Marysville Raceway, as he looks to grab a pair of Championships in 2015. Yet to find Civil War Series victory lane in 2015, Sanders’ hard charging style will be exciting to watch at the Thunderbowl Raceway.
16-year-old Robbie Price makes his way back into the Golden State on Saturday night as he sits third in the series standings. Like the Top-Two, Price too comes in to this weekend’s race fresh off a victory last weekend. Price was in action at the Skagit Speedway, and picked up his first career winged sprint car win. Price has been a fun driver to watch as he competes in his first season aboard a winged 360ci sprint car.
This weekend’s race also has some extra money on the line. As part of the Prentice Motrsports Group Double Down Challenge, if a driver can win on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, and return to victory lane on Saturday night at the Thunderbowl Raceway, they will take home an additional $3,000 making their total winning’s $6,500 if they can pull it off.
Other drivers that are expected to be in attendance for the Civil War Series’ debut at the Thunderbowl Raceway are Kyle and Koen Shaw, Shane Golobic, Andy Forsberg, Dominic Scelzi, Cody Lamar, Brett Rollag, Matt Peterson, Mason Moore, Ryan Bernal, Chase Johnson, amongst many others.
Saturday night, the front gates will open at 4pm, with cars on the track by 5pm. Adult reserved grandstand tickets can be purchased for just $15, while adult bleacher seats available for $13. Children 6-12 are ½ price, while fans 5 and under are free.
