FVP NSL Notes from the Weekend!

National Sprint League NSL Tease

Windom, MN (May 12, 2015) – The FVP National Sprint League kept rolling last weekend with exciting finishes at the Eagle Raceway in Nebraska and the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa. This Friday night, the NSL takes on the MOWA series in Jacksonville, Illinois. The $5,000 to win event will also see Steve Kinser, Danny Smith, Rico Abreu and many more vying for the win. Following are some notes from last weekend.

Close Finish at Eagle – Brad Loyet emerged in a tight finish that saw the lead change four times in the last four laps. “Mr. Excitement” held the lead until Brian Brown surged by on lap 28. Loyet would take it back on the next go-around, and Brown would lead again briefly on the last lap. The win was Brad’s first in a 410, and it was big. It made him eligible for the Durst Motorplex $20,000 bonus to win at Eagle and Knoxville. There was also chaos behind the lead pair with several spots exchanged the last ten laps of the race. Third place Danny Lasoski was only .629 seconds behind the leader.

Wet Grounds – Despite receiving seven inches of rain two days before, the staff at Eagle Raceway did an outstanding job providing a racy track. To make matters worse, instead of sunny 76 degree temps to help dry things, it was cool and cloudy. In addition, thieves struck again the day before the race making things difficult to move equipment. All in all, a big thumbs up goes to the crew at Eagle, and the NSL looks forward to the Nebraska Cup there on Friday, September 11.

Side of the Road Decisions – Josh Schneiderman was two hours from Eagle Raceway when a flat tire on the race hauler sidelined him. Help took a lot longer than expected, and the team was still there two hours before hot laps pushed off. A quick vote by the team had them forging on instead of heading back towards Knoxville. Without ever seeing Eagle and having one set of hot laps, “The Professor” proceeded to lay down the sixth quick time of the night.

Great Start for a New Team – When Mark Dobmeier teamed up with Jimco Motorsports, they were unsure how things would play out. They’ve been playing out very well. “Dynamite” Dobmeier charged from eighth to fourth at Eagle before surging from 11th to sixth at Knoxville. This combination is only going to get better.

…and another – Dave Lunstra spent the winter deciding first if he would race and then who would race for him. It seems he made the right choice. The new #3 team and Tim Kaeding have been lightning. After winning the KSE Hard-charger award the first two events, some thought he may own the company before long. He proved on Saturday, however, that he can qualify as well. He timed in fourth quick at Knoxville, before surging from eighth to second, and is currently second in NSL points.

Dude and some Guy – When the question came up about contenders for a title with the FVP National Sprint League, how many thought about the Dude and some Guy? When have Danny Lasoski and Guy Forbrook lost anything? They proved it again at Knoxville on Saturday, winning in convincing fashion in the Big Game Motorsports #2. Danny currently leads the NSL standings heading into Jacksonville where he has won before.

Rough go for Lynton – Friday’s trip to Eagle was not the best for Lynton Jeffrey. After hitting a turn one hole and spinning, he got upside down a lap later. To make matters worse, a fan ran off with the broken wing. Lynton had told the fan they could have the sideboard. If you have information on who has the rest, you can contact the NSL.

Heading to Indy – Bryan Clauson is currently making practice runs at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Jonathan Byrd Racing in preparation for the upcoming Indy 500. Bryan turned in another solid weekend finishing eighth at Eagle and surging from tenth to fourth at Knoxville. His next NSL race will be in Farmington, Missouri on May 28.

Buffalo Wild Winger – Dusty Zomer got everyone’s attention at Knoxville in the Buffalo Wild Wings #82. After qualifying sixteenth quick, he won his heat. Starting sixteenth he roared to a top five finish. He was noticeably faster than much of his competition. The Sioux Falls native should be faster each time out as this is another team in their first full year.

Set “Back” for TMAC – We only make this pun because Terry McCarl thinks they are “punny”. Nothing was humorous about TMAC’s scary crash that also involved Brian Brown and Brad Loyet (who was checked out in the hospital on Sunday). TMAC suffered a fractured vertebrae and is seeing his orthopedic surgeon as we speak. He hopes to be back soon. If he’s not behind the wheel of the TMAC Motorsports #24 this Friday night, his son Austin will be. Austin registered the ninth quick time of the night at Eagle, and was third quick at Knoxville on Saturday in his own #17A.

Awesome Crowd at Knoxville – Finally! Knoxville Raceway got their season opener in in front of a huge crowd. Free kids night helped. Ninety-eight sprint cars were pit-side making for a great night of racing. The NSL returns to Knoxville on June 27, July 4 and August 29.
