Cassopolis, MI — (June 10, 2015) — Ovals in Ohio and Michigan host USAC Auto Value Bumper-to-Bumper Sprint races this weekend. The action begins on Friday night at Toledo Speedway with the All American Coach/Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness Fastest Short Track Show in the World and concludes with Saturday race is at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Mich.
Toledo-area businessman and 1996 Indianapolis 500 winning car owner Ron Hemelgarn has posted a $25,000 Hemelgarn Super Fitness “Triple Crown” bonus for any driver who can win all three open-wheel races at the half-mile Toledo oval this year. Kody Swanson won the opening leg with his victory in the May 1 Hemelgarn Super Fitness “Rollie Beale Classic” USAC Silver Crown race. The remaining legs are Saturday’s Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints race and the June 26 King of the Wing event.
Tennessee’s Kyle Edwards took over the early season points lead after scoring the feature victory at Kalamazoo (Mich.) Speedway on June 6. Edwards posted a runner-up finish in the opener in April at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway and currently leads one of the most diverse Pavement Spirit Car drivers Aaron Pierce by just six markers. Season-opening winner Bobby Santos Jr. ranks third with defending series champion Jason Blonde and Ryan Gillenwater completing the top five.
The series will compete at Toledo for the 16th occasion. Six-time and defending series champion Jason Blonde has visited the winner’s circle three times at Toledo, most recently in 2010. Cameron Dodson has earned two wins while 10 other drivers have a single victory at the half-mile oval.
Saturday’s event at Auto City will be the 44th series event at the Michigan oval dating back to the inaugural series event in May of 1997 won by Gary Fedewa. On the all-time victory charts, Bill Tyler and Tom Fedewa have each scored seven wins. Other multiple winners include Gary Fedewa (5), Jason Blonde (4) and three wins by Hank Lower, Kevin Feeney and Mike Ling. The most recent winner at Auto City is Cody Hoover, who scored his first career win in August of 2013.
On Friday at Toledo, practice begins at 4 p.m., qualifying is set for 6 with the racing program starting at 7:30. Advanced Reserved & General Admission Tickets are $20 and on Raceday will be $25. Children 6-12 are priced at $3 with Under six free.
At Auto City, practice begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday, qualifying is set for 5 with the racing program rolling off at 7. Adult admission is $18, Seniors are admitted for $12 with Kids (6-12) priced at $5. Children five and under are admitted free.
