ALGER, Wash. (July 29, 2015) – Seth Bergman defended his crown in dominating fashion last weekend during the 26th annual Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals at Skagit Speedway.
Bergman led all 40 laps of the $10,000-to-win event on Saturday to score his ninth victory of the season after putting together an efficient preliminary night on Friday.
“I knew going into the weekend we were going to have to qualify well,” he said. “Every time you hit the track it was important. You had to put an emphasis on being the fastest car out there. Friday night we did what you had to do as far as that format demands, which is to accumulate points.”
Bergman set quick time during qualifying before advancing from fourth to third place during a heat race to lock himself into the main event, which inverted the lock-in drivers. That lined Bergman up on the inside of the eighth row as the driver with the most points out of the 15 locked in.
Bergman methodically worked his way into the top five before finishing fifth, which ranked him second in overall points heading into Saturday’s finale.
“I was happy with it,” he said. “I don’t like defeat. For me to run fifth meant I could get beat so I needed to have everything together for Saturday.”
Bergman started Saturday’s A Main scramble on the outside of the front row, but he quickly took the lead. The scramble victory gave him the pole position for the main event.
“We made a few changes to our race car where I felt we could get better on it,” he said. “By the time the feature came around it seemed like the pole was where you wanted to start. I wanted to get out front and I wanted to be the guy controlling the race. I knew clean air at Skagit means a lot. At the beginning of the race I tried to set a good pace. Things were super hectic in traffic and I was trying to pick and choose my way through. I was trying not to put myself in a bad position. I think we had the car to beat all 40 laps.”
Bergman maintained the top position throughout the feature to claim his second straight Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals.
He is slated to compete this Thursday and Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
