(September 2, 2015) – Caistor Centre, Ontario – Team Turner Racing chalked up another win last Friday, as Jamie Turner got his first Sprint Car A-Feature victory at Ohsweken Speedway. Jamie and sons Cory and Ryan are now gearing up for races on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend.
AUGUST 28 – OHSWEKEN
The 13th Ohsweken Speedway visit of the season proved to be good luck for Team Turner, as Jamie, Cory, and Ryan all drew pole positions for their respective heat races. Jamie and Cory both won their heat races and qualified for the redraw for A-Feature starting positions, while Ryan slipped back two positions, and missed the redraw.
The good luck continued, as Jamie drew the pole positions for the A-Feature, while Cory drew 4th, and Ryan lined up 10th.
“My dad took off at the start of the green flag and never looked back. He had his car really dialed in!” Cory noted. “I was able to advance to 2nd by about the halfway mark, and began to close in on my dad until he made the winning move of the race by passing 3 cars in turns three and four! I didn’t get through the traffic nearly as well as he did, and from there I couldn’t make any time up on him.”
Jamie went on to hold the lead through a caution flag and subsequent restart, and claim his first career Sprint Car A-Feature win. Cory took the runner-up spot to secure the team’s first ever 1-2 finish in the Sprint Car division.
“It was an unreal feeling having literally a front row seat to watch my dad take home his first Sprint Car A-Main win!” Cory exclaimed. “It was a long time coming for him, and it is a testament to the quality of team we have, from our crew to our marketing partners and supporters. It was a huge team effort! It was the beginning of a great night, as we hosted our annual corn roast.”
Ryan is close to locking up Rookie of the Year titles both at Ohsweken and on the Southern Ontario Sprints tour, despite some mechanical gremlins this season.
“My brother finished 12th after fighting some mechanical issues in the A-Main,” Cory said. “He’s looking forward to getting back after it this weekend for three shows if all goes well – the Season Championship at Ohsweken on Friday, and then we plan on heading to Brighton for Saturday and Sunday!”
