Port Royal – Port Royal Speedway will drop the final checkered flag of the season with a big season finale featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars and the Mid Atlantic Modifieds this Saturday night, October 24 at 5 pm.
Gates will open at 2 pm.
The World of Outlaws will battle the Pennsylvania Posse sprint car stars in a full program of time trials, heat races, last chance races, a dash and a 30-lap main event paying $10,000 to the winner.
The Mid Atlantic Modifieds will compete in heats and a 20-lap main paying $1,200 to win in the “Bulldog Rear Ends Battle On The Juniata,” presented by Diversified Machine Inc.
The October 24 match up between the outlaws and the posse will be just the ninth in history at the track between the sprint car titans.
Last year, Ryan Smith upended the outlaws stars by holding off Donny Schatz in a run to the finish.
This year, Schatz is as good as he has ever been in his career, having already sealed up another World of Outlaws series title while notching a career-best 31 wins to date on the road.
The North Dakota driver has one win at Port Royal in his career, having taken a WoO race at the track back in 2004.
Other World of Outlaws winners at Port Royal have been: Lynn Paxton, 1979; Don Kreitz Jr., 1986; Doug Wolfgang, 1987; Danny Wood, 2001; Brad Furr, 2002; and Jason Meyers, 2003.
Winners of the now defunct World of Outlaws Division II support series at the track have been: Don Kreitz Jr., 2000; Jeff Shepard, 2000; Lance Dewease, 2001; Todd Shaffer, 2001; and Lance Dewease, 2002.
Schatz’s closest pursuers on the trail this season have been Shane Stewart who currently holds nine wins while Daryn Pittman has five.
Paul McMahan is the most recent series winner after taking a victory at Lawrenceburg, IN., on October 16.
At Port Royal in 2015 nobody has taken more wins than Greg Hodnett who owns six to date. Brent Marks and Steve Buckwalter both own three each.
Lucas Wolfe is the 2015 track champion.
