The final two legs of the International Series in New Zealand saw Jonathan Allard dominate the feature event in Palmerston North before finishing second to Steve Kinser on Saturday night at the Western Springs Speedway.
“We were really good in Palmerston North, and we had a couple chances to get by Steve (Kinser) on Saturday night, but it may not have ended well so I opted to run second and win the series,” Allard said.
Wednesday night, Allard kicked things off by lining up on the front row of his heat race. Getting the jump, Allard would drive away from the field and establish a single lap track record at the speedway as he laid down a sub 13 second lap on his way to the win.
Lining up scratch on the field in his second heat, Allard was able to pick up a couple of valuable positions, as a sixth place finish would give him high point honors on the night.
Getting the best of Dean Brindle in the pole shuffle, Allard would lead the field to green, and that would prove trouble for the rest of the field. In a race that went caution free, Allard was masterful in traffic as he raced his way to his third consecutive win in New Zealand.
Saturday night the scene shifted back to the Western Springs Speedway for the International Series finale. Lining up seventh in both of his heat races, Allard would race his way to a second place finish in the first race, and a fifth place finish in the second race putting him second in points on this night.
Beating Jamie McDonald in his first round of the pole shuffle, Allard would come up short to ‘The King’, Steve Kinser, in the pole shuffle finale and would find himself starting on the inside of the front row for the feature event.
When the 25-lap feature went green, Kinser got the jump, but Allard followed closely as he searched for an opening to get by the Sprint Car legend.
Trying everything he could, Allard could find the opening he needed and would see his winning streak come to a close as he would finish in the second spot behind Kinser.
“It is a little disappointing to come up short, but it is an honor to run second to a legend like Steve Kinser,” he added. “My guys have this car working really well, and we are having a blast. I have to thank everyone who supports this team for the awesome start we are having.”
