SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 4, 2016) – There is plenty of action surrounding the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which has featured two exciting nights of racing at Cocopah Speedway.
Ohio native and defending All Star Circuit of Champions champion Dale Blaney captured the opener on Friday before NASCAR star Kyle Larson dominated Saturday’s event.
As the semi-banked, 3/8-mile oval is being prepared for Round 3 on Tuesday, the local community has a variety of events for fans, teams and locals throughout this week.
“We want to make the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown a destination-type event so the local community has stepped up to provide everyone with a variety of things to do this week,” Cocopah Speedway General Manager Greg Burgess said.
The Cocopah Rio Colorado Golf Course will host the Winter Heat Speed Golf Tournament on Monday at 2 p.m.
A press conference showcasing several drivers is set for 1 p.m. on Tuesday inside the Cocopah Wild River Family Entertainment Center.
On Wednesday, White Horse will play in the Sunset Lounge at the Cocopah Casino beginning at approximately 9 p.m.
Thursday will feature the Speedway Winter Heat Golf Tournament at Cocopah RV & Golf Resort at 8:30 a.m. as well as the Winter Heat Bowling Tournament at Cocopah Wild River Family Entertainment Center at 6 p.m.

Also, the track has free dry camping available with vendors providing black/gray tank pumping, filling tanks with fresh water and making on-site RV repairs if necessary.
The pit gate is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. each day with the main gates opening at 2 p.m. The pits are open from 2-5 p.m. each race day for fans to mingle with the drivers. Hot laps will get underway at approximately 6:30 p.m. with Opening Ceremonies slated for 7 p.m.

THE EVENT –
The 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown will showcase the top sprint car drivers in the world in sunny Southwest Arizona during the first two weeks of January in 2016. The four weekend races pay $12,000 to the winner and at least $1,000 to every driver who advances to the main event with the midweek show paying $5,000 to win.
POINTS FUND –
The 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown features a $10,000 points fund thanks to Cometic Gasket, JE Pistons and K1 Technologies. The driver who garners the most overall points throughout all five races receives $4,000 for winning the championship with drivers finishing second through fifth each recording a $1,500 bonus.
