Ian Madsen Picks Up Two Feature Event Wins

Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team are hitting their stride as the busy part of the racing season approaches. Picking up a NSL 360 race on Thursday night in Fairmont, MN, Madsen and company would with at the Knoxville Raceway in the 360ci division before finishing fifth with the 410’s.

 

“It was a great weekend for this team, and it was great to get a couple of wins, including winning during Logan Contractors Supply night at the Knoxville Raceway,” Ian Madsen said. “Kyle Ripper and the boys have this car working very well night and it is a blast to drive.”

 

Heading to Fairmont, MN on Thursday night, Madsen would start is night off by finishing second in heat race action and moving into the Dash. Lining up sixth in the Dash, the St. Marys, NSW native would turn in an impressive showing that saw him work his way forward to pick up the win and earn the right to start on the front row of the 20-lap feature event.

 

Leading the field to green on the extremely slick Fairmont Raceway, Madsen would set a torrid pace in the early goings as he opened up a sizeable lead. As the race went on and the track continued to slick off, Madsen admitted to starting to be a little conservative as he looked to keep his tires under him.

 

In the race’s closing stages, Madsen would feel pressure from Lee Grosz, and would then pick his pace back up. Fending off Grosz in the final laps, Madsen would race on to pick up his third consecutive NSL 360 Tri-State region feature event.

 

Heading to Knoxville, IA on Saturday night, Madsen and the KCP Racing team would compete in both the 360ci and 410ci divisions.

 

Timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Kline Electric No. 18 machine in second fastest in the 360ci program and seventh fastest in the 410ci program, Madsen would finish second and fourth in respective heat races.

 

Lining up in the third row for the 360ci feature event, Madsen would get into the fourth spot as the race came to life before using an early restart to get by Clint Garner to take over third.

 

A restart with eight laps to go would see Madsen get by Matt Covington to take over the second spot as he then chased after the race leader, Jamie Ball. Keeping Ball in striking distance, Madsen would make his race winning move on the 14th lap and race on to capture his first ever 360ci win at the Knoxville Raceway.

 

Gridding the field from the fifth spot in the 410ci feature event, Madsen would find himself battling with fellow countrymen, Brooke Tatnell, Craig Dollansky, and Sammy Swindell.

 

Running solidly in the Top-Five during the duration of the feature event, Madsen would cap a stout weekend with a fifth place finish.
