Susquehannna, PA — (July 3, 2016) — Scott Geesey was the class of the field in Saturday night’s Super Sportsman Firecracker 40 presented by Dellingers Auto Body at Susquehanna Speedway.
The Wellsville driver started third on the grid, took control on lap 26 and never looked back en route to picking up the big $2,000 paycheck in one of the biggest races of the season for the Credit Connection Auto Sales Super Sportsman.
By virtue of a four car invert from time trials, Scott Dellinger lined up on the pole for the 40 lap event and set the pace through the first 25 laps.
Geesey, of Wellsville, PA grabbed the top spot with 26 laps complete and was able to keep the field at bay to score his second win of the season and also strengthened his track point lead aboard his Credit Connection Auto Sales/Silver Lake Inn/Kreitzer Excavating/Thomans LLC/Sprint Aces #41.
Chad Criswell, who lined up alongside Dellinger on the front row came home in the runner-up position with Dellinger settling for third spot over eighth starting Frankie Herr and 12th starting Rich Eichelberger.
Completing the top ten finishers were Mike Enders, Tony Jackson, Gregg Foster, Chad Smith and last week’s winner Devin Beidel. Smith earned the Hard Charger Award for advancing from 18th starting spot.
Gregg Foster set a new one lap track record in time trials with a lap of 16.712 seconds.
Twin qualifying races were won by Russ Mitten and Beidel. There were 31 Super Sportsman in competition.
The 358 Late Models took the roof off their full-bodied machines for the annual Harbaugh Amusements/Creekside Auto Sales Topless 40 where it was Greencastle, PA driver getting his first win driving for car owner Dan Little.
Myers dominated the 40 lap main event, leading flag to flag to take home the $2,000 payday in his first ever Susquehanna feature win. He became the third different late model winner this season.
Randy Christine, Jr. finished second ahead of eighth starting Gene Knaub, Shaun Jones and Sam Gallagher with Derike Quade, Bobby Beard, Dan Zechman, Charlie Potts and Kyle Lear rounding out the top ten finishers. Jakes Jones was the Hard Charger from 24th to 13th.
Three-time winner Randy Stoudt paced the 29-car field in time trials with a lap of 18.049 seconds.
Late Models heats were won by Myers, Knaub and Lear with Matt Nailor taking ths consolation.
Four different drivers held the lead during the 20-lap street stock feature and it was Mike Potts coming out on top for his first win of the year at the track. He became the sixth street stock winner in 2016.
Matt Adams led the first two laps before giving way to Chad Stine who led until Josh Bloom took over with ten laps complete. Bloom would pull pitside during a lap 16 caution period, turning the lead back to Stine.
Potts, who started seventh took the lead on lap 18 and took the checkers over Scott Thunberg, Kevin Sigler, Stine and Ryan Smith, who started 19th.
Sean Todd finished sixth with Jimmy Combs earning the Hard Charger from from 22nd to finish seventh over Bob Scott, Jr., Steve Dove and Eric Tripp.
Sigler, Potts and Adams won heats for the 35 street stocks. Mike Buckley was the consolation winner.
Susquehanna Speedway returns to action Saturday, July 9 on Trone Outdoor Advertising Night featuring the PASS IMCA 305 Sprint, 358 Late Models, Road Warriors and BFTP Vintage Cars. .Pits open at 4PM with grandstands opening at 5PM and racing beginning at 7PM.
There will also be another Test & Tune at the speedway on Wednesday, July 6 beginning at 6PM.
