ABBOTTSTOWN, Penn. (August 6, 2016) — Kevin Nouse took his second lead of the race on the last lap to score a thrilling seventh career Lincoln win over Tyler Walton in the 20-lap 358 sprint car feature Saturday night.
The win kept him in the running with one race remaining in the Capitol Renegade “King of the 358’s” eight-race point series.
“Boy, if you don’t like that one, you don’t like racing!” exclaimed Nouse after climbing from the Jake Raudabaugh Bulls-Eye Express #1J in victory lane, “Tyler made a mistake in lapped traffic, and I was able to get by him, and there they were (the lapped cars) in front of me, and I didn’t know what the hell to do. They were keeping a good enough pace that I couldn’t get by ‘em on the bottom, but they were going slow enough that they were holding me up.”
Walton, a one-time winner at Trail-Way Speedway this year, took the lead from his outside front row starting spot at the drop of the green and led the first 11 laps before seventh-starting Nouse slid under him in lapped traffic exiting turn two of lap 12.
For the next four laps, it looked like Nouse was on his way to his second win in two nights (after winning the Nouse Signs & Graphics Summer Series event at Williams Grove on Friday night). But Walton came roaring back to drive around Nouse in lapped traffic exiting turn number four of lap 17.
Walton then looked like the apparent winner until he hopped the cushion trying to slide under a lapped car in turn two of the last lap. Nouse drove under both the leader and lapped car and drove to his first Lincoln win of the year, becoming the 11th different winner in 13 races in the Pigeon Hills this year.
“My hat’s off to Tyler. He’s a rookie, and drove a helluva race,” said Nouse, “He just made one mistake there at the end, but he didn’t have a choice. Whoever was running second in traffic had the advantage, and we were just able to take advantage. Winning two nights in a row is extra special, and I’m just thrilled to death.”
Central PA 358 points leader Jeff Halligan started tenth and finished third, with Tyler Esh and 11th-starting Matt Campbell rounding out the top five. Sixth through tenth were Troy Wagaman, Jr., Brie Hershey, 15th-starting Doug Hammaker, David Holbrook, and 18th-starting Lincoln points leader Chandler Leiby.
Heats for the 34 358 sprints were won by Nouse, Walton, Hershey, and Halligan, with CJ Tracy winning the consolation.
Seven Valleys’ Reed Saloney raced to his first career Lincoln Central PA Legends win. Saloney started seventh and took the race lead from Lucas Montgomery on lap eight. Polesitter Chris Transeau led the first five laps before handing the lead over to Montgomery. Once ahead, Saloney led the rest of the way, taking the checkered 1.03 seconds ahead of Harlon Leppo, who came from 18th starting spot to score the runner-up finish.
Third through fifth were Montgomery, Bob Stough, and Mason Chaney.
Heats for the 26 Legends were won by Chris McKinney, Scott Haudeshell, and Saloney, with Chad Earnst winning the consolation.
Justin Wagaman claimed the win in his first-ever Lincoln appearance in the 15-lap 4-cylinder stock car feature. Wagaman started on the pole, followed outside front row starter Matt Chronister for the first lap, then led the rest of the way in the non-stop race that lasted five minutes, 20.31 seconds, establishing a track record in the process.
Second through fifth were Chris Anderson, Justin Williamson, Chronister, and Julio Perez.
Heats for the 16 4-cylinder stocks were won by Jeff Foster and Anderson.
Steve Clemo took the checkered flag in the 20-lap Dizzy Dean Memorial for Classic Cars. Clemo started on the pole but was relegated to the second row after a false start at the beginning. Dorsey Weaver then led the first four laps before Clemo claimed the lead. Clemo led the rest of the way, with Joe Brown (who came from the rear twice after starting there and then spinning with season-long points leader Neal Reamer in mid-race) crossing second and Reamer coming back to finish third.
Heats for the 11 Classic cars were won by Clemo and Reamer.
Next weekend, Saturday, August 13th, Lincoln Speedway will hold the NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS NIGHT IN MEMORY OF BRANDON LITTLE on KIDS NIGHT featuring the 410 Sprints, 358 Sprints, and All-American Outlaws. The 33-lap 410 sprint car feature will pay $5,000 to win, and the 20-lap 358 sprint feature will pay $1,333 to the winner. Gates open at 5:30 PM, with racing getting underway at 7:30 PM.
