ANDERSON, Ind. (October 7, 2016) – The memory and legacy of Hoosier Sprint Car champion and popular Pay Less Little 500 driver Tony Elliott will be honored this weekend at Anderson Speedway.
The Speedway is hosting “Paint the Night Pink” sponsored by Community Hospital Anderson, St. Vincent Anderson Regional, McGowan Insurance and Star 106.9.
The Warsaw native is considered by many as the best driver to compete in the world’s richest pavement sprint car race without a victory. Elliott made 22 career starts in the Pay Less Little 500 scoring a pole position in 2009 and seven top-five finishes.
Elliott’s best finish in the Little 500 was a second in 2008; during his career he led eight races for a total of 1,059 laps. He was the USAC National Sprint Car champion in 1998 and 2000.
Unfortunately Elliott passed away last year in an airplane crash.
The “Tony Elliott Classic” will take place this Saturday for non-wing sprint cars with track officials expecting a field of 15 to 20 teams for the 50-lap event.
Anderson Speedway is the only track in the Midwest hosting non-wing sprint cars on pavement with the Glen Niebel Classic, Pay Less Little 500 and now the Tony Elliott Classic.
The non-wing sprint cars will be joined by the championship race for the Kenyon Midget Series.
Dameron Taylor has a 123 point lead over rookie of the year Chase Jones.
There have been four different winners in the series at Anderson Speedway with the eventual winner not being determined until the closing laps of the feature races.
Joining the racing card is the CSR Super Cups and Indy Faskarts.
Qualifying is set for 5:30 p.m. with racing action starting at 7 p.m.
Adult tickets are priced at $12 with $4 admission cost for children between the ages of 6 and 12.
