HANOVER, Pa. (August 4, 2017) – “I love it here. If you ain’t having fun here, you just ain’t having fun.”
So quipped Westminster, Maryland’s Steve Owings after holding off Isaac Sneeringer in an exciting 25-lap Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic 358 Sprint Car feature at Trail-Way Speedway.
Owings, who started fifth, was able to pass polesitter Bradley Howard by lap three. Sneeringer was able to maintain a several car lengths lead until lapped traffic became a factor at the half-way point. Owings was able to make the race-winning pass on the backstretch, coming to lap 14.
“I was trying to run the top but there wasn’t a whole lot up there so I had to run around the bottom,” said Owings after exiting his B&D Truck Hoist/Westminster Lawn/Westminster Transmission/Valentine Motorsports #35 in victory lane, “But like I said it worked out and we stayed right there with him. When he went down low, those [lapped] cars were in the middle and I was up high. I knew I was good. All I had to do was make sure he slid up a little bit.”
“You know, it’s experience. He’s [Sneeringer] a heck of a racer. But it feels good to put the #35 in victory lane.”
Following Owings across the line were Sneeringer, Joe Trone Jr., hard charger Mike Bittinger and Zach Euculano.
Qualifiers for the 358 Sprint Cars were won by Owings and Trone Jr.
Zachary Glass scored the 20-lap Mason Dixon 270 Micro Sprint feature after starting on the pole and leading every lap. It was Glass’ first career Trail-Way 270 micro sprint win.
Completing the top five were Chad Myers, current point leader Mike Rutherford, Levi Peck and Brian Marriott.
Heats for the 22 270 micro sprints were won by Rutherford and Myers.
Outside front row starter Mason Chaney led the entire 20-lap ServiceMaster Clean Central PA Legends feature to score his third win of 2017 at Trail-Way Speedway.
Travis McClelland, Bill Diehl, Hayden Pascoe and Scott Houdeshell completed the top five.
Heats for the 24 Legends were won by Houdeshell and Chris McKinney.
Third starting Jeremy Stremmel scored his 10th career Street Stock feature win at Trail-Way Speedway. Stremmel led the entire 20-lap feature race while holding off the challenges of current point leader, Brian Walls. Walls attempted one final dive into turns three and four, but Stremmel came away victorious.
Following Stremmel and Walls across the line were Travis Leh, Michael Goodwin and Aaron Beard.
Heats for the Street Stocks were won by Stremmel and Leh.
Next Friday, August 11, Trail-Way swings back into action with the Trone Outdoor 358 Sprint Car Championship race, paying $1,200 to win, along with the 600 Micro Sprints, Mason Dixon 270 Micro Sprints and the Limited Stocks. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with heats scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m.
