WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (7/7/18) – The third event in eight short days welcomed the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series for the first time in 2018 to Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio.  The event dubbed the Dick Spencer Memorial honored track friend Dick Spencer who did a lot for the racing community.  Members of the Spencer family were on-hand to give back to the racing community as Dick did by giving away bicycles, candy, and other prizes to kids in attendance.

The Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series saw 34 drivers sign-in to compete for the $1500 prize money.  The BOSS visit was the first of the season and served as a tune-up before the $3000 to win Jack Hewitt Classic event on August 4th.  The A-main started 22 cars and was led to the opening green flag by the 24 of Landon Simon and the 9N of Luke Hall.  Simon took the lead into turn one and led the opening lap.  The red flag flew with just 4 laps in the books as Minster, Ohio’s Paul Dues flipped down the front stretch and into turn one.  Dues walked away from the scene under his own power.  Back under green, Dustin Ingle began to challenge Cody Gardner for the fourth spot.  Ingle’s run was a success moving him into the fourth spot.  Back up front, Simon and Hall began to battle for the top spot.  The pair caught lap traffic with 15 laps remaining in the main.  Lap traffic tested both drivers as they attempted to weave in and out of lap traffic while keeping a close eye on each other.  As the battle continued, Matt Westfall came out of nowhere as he jumped into the third spot.  As laps began to wind down, Hall took the lead away from Simon and began to pull away slightly.  The lead Hall built up was short lived as another wave of lap traffic allowed Simon to catch back up.  On the final lap of the main, Westfall made it a three-way battle for the lead.  As the trio entered turn two, contact was made spinning Simon around and stalling out on the bottom side of the track.  Simon climbed out from behind the wheel to show his disappointment in Westfall.  The one lap shootout allowed Westfall to put a slider on Hall exiting turn four to take home the victory from his outside row seven starting spot.  Luke Hall finished second with Steve Irwin finishing third.  Landon Simon, Luke Hall, Mike Miller, and Drew Rader picked up the heat race victories.  Cole Ketcham and Scotty Weir claimed the B-mains.

The Performance Powder Coating AMSA Mini Sprints took the track for a $700 payday.  Lima’s Chris Bounds and Mason’s Brad Strunk led the field to the opening green flag.  Bounds won the drag race into turn one and led the opening lap.  Strunk trailed Bounds during the opening two laps but began to make a run as lap three clicked off.  The two battled for a short period of time before Bounds pulled away and built up some real estate between him and Strunk.  The first yellow flag of the race came with nine laps remaining for the 41J of Jeremy Powley.  Powley’s car came to a stop in turn two.  Back under green, Bounds built up a lead once again over Strunk.  The front runners got a shock late in the race as the 17P of Austin Powell spun directly in front of them and the rest of the field.  Everyone managed to avoid.  Bounds’ luck ran out as he made contact with the outside wall exiting turn three.  Bounds was unable to continue giving the lead and the victory to Strunk.  Jac Nickles finished second with Brad Racer coming home third.  Jac Nickles and Austin Powell picked up the heat race victories.  Chris Bounds set a new track record with a time of 12.675 seconds.

The Indian Lake Outfitter Compacts rounded out the night of racing running 15 laps.  Ryan Okuley and Robbie Tuttle led the field to the opening green flag.  Tuttle took the lead entering turn one before the yellow flew for the lil316 of Devon Hower and the 96H of Tony Heath making contact.  Back under green, Tuttle took control of the field again and led the opening lap.  The “Racing Realtor” Austin Scott moved into the second spot with 10 laps remaining in the main.  Following Scott’s move to second, a caution flag was thrown for the 96 of Ryan Okuley.  Back under green, former track champion Brandon McDaries began to battle with Nick Glasgow for the third spot.  The run was successful moving McDaries into to the third spot.  The final caution of the race came with just two laps remaining in the main for the 31A of Audrie Twining.  The two-lap shootout saw Austin Scott grabbing the lead and his fourth win on the season.  Robbie Tuttle finished second with Brandon McDaries finishing in third.  Tuttle and Okuley picked up the heat race wins.
