QUINCY, Mich. (July 2, 2022) — Danny Sams III and Jason Blonde were victorious Saturday night at Butler Motor Speedway winning the Great Lakes Super Sprints and winged 410 sprint car features respectively.
Sams, from North Port, Florida, took the lead from Phil Gressman during a wild exchange through lapped traffic at the midway point of the 25-lap main event. Gressman held on for second position while Keith Sheffer Jr, Adam Cruea, and Gregg Dalman rounded out the top five.
Sams also extended his point lead with GLSS after Max Stambaugh broke a shifter cable while running in a podium position.
After not winning since 1999 at Butler, Blonde picked up his second victory of the 2022 season driving for Mike Baker. Blonde, from Litchfield, Michigan, worked his way up from sixth starting spot to challenge Josh Turner for the lead. Turner was able to hold the advantage during multiple restarts until an open red flag occurred with two laps to go. During the restart Turner’s car bottomed out on the front stretch, zapping his momentum just enough for Blonde to slip by between turns one and two. Blonde drove away over the final lap and a half for the victory over Turner, Boston Mead, Stambaugh, and Sams.
