Boston Reid thrilled the crowd in his hometown of Kokomo, Indiana Sunday night by winning the GLOSS sprint car feature at the Kokomo Speedway. Boston, who graduated June 8th from High School, was still on cloud nine Monday about the big win.

During my 23 years of race chasing and the past 6 seasons of doing TJ Slideways.com (has it really been that long?) I have been to some of the biggest open wheel events in the world. Some are still going strong such at the Kings Royal, the Amoco Knoxville Nationals, Ohio Speedweek, and the 4-Crown Nationals.

The Gumout Series got a bit of bad news and a bit of good news on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway concerning who would be chasing the 2001 title. Saturday the Guy Forbrook team with Jeff Shepard secured funding to stay on the road with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws. No word on who the sponsor will be.

What a difference a week makes. Last weekend saw myself and a guest freeze at Attica through a tremendous feature, warm up slightly only to have it rain before the heat races at Eldora, and then see snow on the way home when we should have been seeing a double dip with USAC Worldcom National midgets and Stoops/Freightliner Sprint Cars. The Anderson event was rescheduled for one week later, and at the last moment Mudclodbob, Patrick Poor, and myself hopped in the car and headed down to the Glen Niebel Classic.

As always there was some information I couldn’t quite squeeze into my notes column, so I saved a little bit of info on the weekend action at Attica.

I just got back from the “Parade of Champions” in Lansing for the Michigan State Spartans National Championship Basketball game. It seems as if MSU has made Florida kind of its whipping boy after the Citrus Bowl and now winning the National Championship over the Gators. I’m almost sure MSU could take them in Ice Hockey as well! Great job State, and thankfully no discount store couches burned in the celebration this time around!
