Pennsylvania has long been a hotbed for some of the finest open wheel dirt track racers in the United States of America. Gavin Miller of Allentown, Pa. is among the new breed who struck a chord on the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship trail in 2023.
It all started with a DM. When Abacus Racing owner Brent Cox reached out to Logan Seavey via a direct message on Instagram in late 2022, it turned out to be a most fortuitous decision that instantly altered the fortunes for both driver and team.
Get your kicks on Route 99! For two-straight nights on November 21-22, California’s Merced Speedway becomes the route for USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship racing.
No matter how many times you witness it, Kyle Larson’s late-race heroics never fail to completely mesmerize the senses. On Sunday night at California’s Placerville Speedway, the Elk Grove, Calif. native once again dazzled down the stretch as he charged from his 16th starting position and into the lead on lap 93 of the 100-lap main event before pacing the final eight circuits en route to victory at the Hangtown 100.
Kyle Larson estimated that it had been the longest he’d gone without winning a midget race in his illustrious career. As it turned out, the ingredients that made up his last victory just two days shy of two years ago turned out to be the same mix that led him to victory lane during Friday night’s Hangtown 100 opener at California’s Placerville Speedway.
Logan Seavey remembers it well. The last time the Sutter, Calif. native won the November Classic at California’s Bakersfield Speedway in 2018, it cemented his USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship hopes and aspirations.
One-hundred laps. It’s a daunting task in a midget any way you slice it. For one, it’s imperative to ensure you can make it the distance, not only mechanically but physically and mentally as well.
All roads lead to California’s Bakersfield Speedway! For one, it’s the start of the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship’s annual voyage to the west coast on Tuesday night, November 14, the first of six races in a 12-day span in the Golden State to close out the 2023 season.
