WYSONG TAKES ROCKY MOUNTAIN TITLE; LAS VEGAS CANCELLED

From Dick Jordan

Jimmy Wysong of South Jordan, Utah is the first three-time champion of the USAC Young Automotive Group Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series, completing the 2010 season with a 19-point cushion over runner-up Jim Waters, also of South Jordan, Utah, who was also seeking his third series championship.

A projected October 9 race at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Bullring has failed to materialize and its cancellation renders the Rocky Mountain Series standings as final.

Wysong won the 2005 and 2006 Rocky Mountain titles, won in his only 2007 start, then took a hiatus in 2008 and 2009 before returning this season. He scored a series record 16th feature victory in the series opener in May, then added a pair of seconds, three thirds, a fourth, fifth and sixth to outduel Waters for the crown.

Tony Hunt of Lincoln, Calif. leads the AMSOIL Western Sprint Car Series, which will conclude its 2010 campaign November 25 as part of the “Turkey Night Grand Prix” at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif.
