DuQuoin, Ill., Nov 22—A dozen additional entries received last week pushes the pre-entry total to forty-four competitors for the upcoming Dec. 18 inaugural “Battle at the Center”, on the Mini Magic Mile inside the Southern Illinois Center. The invitational event will be sanctioned by the POWRi SPEEDWAY Motors National Midget Series.
Loyet Motorsports filed three entries for the event, for reigning 2010 POWRi Midget Championship Brad Loyet, 2008 Chili Bowl winner Damion Gardner and Casey Shuman. Shuman captured the most recent DuQuoin event in March 2010. Recently crowned USAC National Midget Champion Bryan Clauson winner of six POWRi events during the 2010 season has also entered the event.
Additional drivers entering the $5,000-to-win event include: Bobby East, Shane Cottle, Matt Sherrill, Tony Roney, Levi Roberts, John Campbell, Tyler Courtney and 2010 USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Pavement Championship Jake Blackhurst.
The one-day event will feature midget racing only, and is being taped by NeWave Productions for delayed broadcast on SPEED Channel’s LUCAS Oil on the Edge. Tickets are for the event are selling at a brisk pace and with limited seating available, a sell-out before race day is expected.
