Hendrick Wins Jack Hewitt Classic

By Gerry Keysor

Racing action was sandwiched between rain showers on Saturday night as Waynesfield raceway Park held the 3rd Annual Jack Hewitt Classic, sponsored by Buckeye Machine Fabricators. The added moisture made the racing surface extremely fast and exciting all through the evening.

Kicking off Feature action were the Performance Powder Coating 1000cc Mini Sprints. Middletown, Ohio’s “Hot” Rod Henning picked up the win in the Ronnie French Commercial Washer and Dryer #28H. Henning picked up the win after getting by #7R Nick Daugherty on lap 9 of the 15 lap affair. Daugherty would finish 2nd, with #24L Lee Underwood 3rd, #74 drew Rader 4th, and points leader #23 Devon Dobie completing the top 5.

Next up were the JR and Sons Service Center Compacts in their A Main. #31 Jeff Kimes, the defending track champion, and current points leader took the win aboard the Rush Creek Gardens entry. The battle for second was hard fought throughout the race, but #49 Tim Ashcraft would claim the runner-up spot over #82 Harvey Yoder, #17 Justin Durflinger, and #11 Jordan Iiams.

The 3rd Annual Jack Hewitt Classic featuring the S&H Nerfs Non Wing Sprint Cars hit the track next. 20 Non Wing Warriors started the 30 lap A Main, with Jack Hewitt himself taking the green flag in his 2 seat Sprint Car with Bob Eulenacher riding shotgun. Fortville, Indiana’s Jonathan Hendrick used his outside front row starting spot to grab the Hewitt Classic win for the 2nd straight year over #40 Justin Grant, who earlier in the evening set the new track record for Non Wing Sprint Cars at Waynesfield with a time of 11.827 seconds. 2009 Jack Hewitt Classic winner, Matt Westfall, driving the family owned #54, came home 3rd. #37k Dustin Smith was 4th, and #17N Nick Bilbee completed the top 5.

Next on the track were the Block Thunder Stock Cars in their A Main.
