Rico Abreu continued his strong run in a dirt midget over the weekend, as a third place finish in Lincoln, IL highlighted the youngsters three race weekend.

Kicking off on Friday night, Abreu and his Keith Kunz Racing team were in Lincoln, Illinois with the Lucas Oil POWRi Midget Series.

Abreu who has already picked up three wins with the series this year, was right in the thick of things again Friday as he ran inside the top five all night.

Late in the feature, Abreu got to battling with Jerry Coons, Jr, and Andrew Felker towards the end of the race.

While working into the fourth spot, Abreu got a huge run coming out of turn four on the final lap as he edged out Coons to the stripe and took home the third spot.

Saturday night, Abreu and his team were again in action with the POWRi Series as they invaded the Macron Speedway in Macron, IL.

Abreu found himself starting the feature event in the third spot, and quickly jumped into the lead as the race went green.

The lead was short lived for the St. Helena, CA driver, as he fell back to the second spot on the second lap as Nick Kneeper got around him.

Falling to third behind Clauson, Abreu’s night ultimately came to an early end as contact with an infield tire on the seventh lap ended his night very early.

On Sunday, the POWRi Series and the USAC National Series battled at the Angel Park Speedway in Sun Prarie, WI, a track that Abreu has grown very fond of as of late.

Kicking off the night, Abreu set the bar in qualifying as he was the nights quickest during time trials.

Starting sixth in his heat, Abreu showed his power as he got into the lead on the second lap, and proceeded to win the heat by five seconds, setting a 19-year-old heat race record in doing so.

Lining up sixth in the feature event, Abreu attacked the rough and tumble Angel Park Speedway cushion as he hung around the top five.

On the 23rd lap, Abreu got into the cushion a little too hard, biked and tipped his Toyota powered/Bullet over and his night was over in the 21st position.

“Like I said last week, this team is really clicking right now,” Abreu commented. “No, we didn’t have three good finishes, but we were up front all three nights, we just had a little bad luck on Friday and Sunday.”

Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, Toyota, ButlerBuilt,, Outlaw Wings, and Petersen Media for their partnership.

ON TAP: Rico is now set to return to the wheel of his Abeu Vineyards Racing No.89 winged sprint car. Abreu is scheduled to be at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night, and at the Johnny Key Classic in Watsonville, CA on Saturday night. It will be Abreu’s first sprint car action since winning at the Calistoga Speedway on Memorial day.
