By MudclodBob/Dick Jordan

Chris Windom won a barn burner over Tracy Hines to capture Night #2 of the USAC “Sprint Car Smackdown” at Kokomo Speedway Friday night in front of a large crowd. Thomas Meseraull and Tracy Hines satrted on the front row with Hines leading four laps until a red flag for a flip by CJ Leary on lap four. Leary was not injured.

Sixth starting Dave Darland was fast on the high side and by lap eight had moved into 2nd with Meseraull, Windom and Kyle Larson following. Now Darland and Hines running low were swapping the lead several times per lap but Hines maintained the lead. After another caution on lap 10 Windom now was moving into the battle and was up to 3rd. Darland and Hines were still locked in a dogfight until Windom took 2nd on lap 17. Bryan Clauson had worked his way towards the front and was now involved.

Then it was a new fight with Windom and Hines with Windom finally getting under Hines with two lap to go. Windom went on to take the checkers with Hines, Clauson, Meseraull and Darland following.

Heats for the 39 cars were won by Levi Jones, Jonathan Hendrick, Justin Grant and Scotty Weir. The B main went to Brent Beachamp.
