Port Royal Releases Nearly 30 Dates On 2013 Schedule

Port Royal, PA — (January 21, 2013) — The 2013 Port Royal Speedway tentative schedule of events sponsored by Lake Chevrolet of Lewistown has been finalized with nearly 30 total events slated for the historic half-mile oval that first raced back in 1938.

 

In addition, a few more events are also under review for placement on the 2013 Port Royal itinerary, one that is already quite diversified from beginning to end.

 

Opening day is set for Saturday, March 16 at 6 PM, featuring an open wheel doubleheader of 410 and 358 sprint cars.

 

A Bug Day practice session is slated for one week earlier, on March 9 from 1 – 4 PM.

 

Popular promotions of the last few seasons are returning for 2013 including several free-pit-admission Camera and Autograph Nights, Mothers Night, Free Student Night and Pepsi Night.

 

New this year is Little League and Softball Team Uniform Night on May 4.

 

Placing an emphasis on community and humanitarian needs, Port Royal will again in 2013 host Race To Cure Cancer Night, Food Pantry Night, Salute To The Military Night and Juniata County EMS Night.

 

Back again also is of course Kids Night along with Kids Racecar Rides, Easter Night and Kids Money and Candy Scrambles.

 

One of the biggest nights for adults, Fan Appreciation Night is returning, slated for June 15.

 

The 410 sprint cars dot the tentative schedule with many big events not the least of which is the return of the wingless sprint cars of USAC to Port Royal Speedway for the second year in a row in June after an eye-opening display of skill and speed in their first-ever show at the track last season.

 

The USAC show will be the third of four nights of racing in the 2013 USAC Eastern Storm tour in Pennsylvania.

 

The All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints will again be in the house for the Bob Weikert Memorial in April along with the two-day Port Royal Tuscarora 50 races in September including the 46th annual Port Royal Tuscarora 50 to close the Juniata County Fair on September 7.

 

For the second year in a row, the All Stars will crown their illustrious Eastern Region Champion at the conclusion of the even more illustrious and prestigious Port Royal 50 races.

 

The 50 races will also again mark the end of the annual point title chases for the sprint, late model, pro stock and enduro divisions.

 

Throughout the slate of racing cards this season, an emphasis was placed on limiting the majority of programs to three divisions or less, in an effort to continue to create a more fan friendly racing experience at Port Royal.

 

In total, more than two -dozen appearances by 410 sprint cars are on the tentative schedule including what will be a full card of racing including the 410 sprints on Memorial Day Saturday, May 25, which is a switch from previous seasons.

 

The Memorial Day Saturday program will feature the Fallen Heroes Championships for 410 sprints and late models, honoring those drivers who lost their life at the speedway during its motorized history since 1938.

 

The program will also feature 305 sprints and a fireworks display as part of the holiday card to kick off the summer.

 

Other big sprint car races include PA Speedweek on July 6, the annual Living Legends Dream Race on August 3 and the Labor Day Classic on September 2.

 

Nearly 20 dates are tentatively planned for the super late models in 2013.

 

Highlights include a twin 15s program on June 29, a championship event in July and the marquee race for the division at the track, The Butch Renninger Memorial on August 31 as the lidlifter for the 159th annual Juniata County Fair.

 

The Renninger Memorial will not only kick off the weeklong fair at the Juniata County Fairgrounds but it will also be part of a prestigious four-day Three State Flyers Series of races in the area.

 

The series will compete in a mini-series of sorts that that hits Hagerstown Speedway on Friday, Port Royal on Saturday, Hesston Speedway on Sunday and Bedford Speedway on Labor Day.

 

Another huge fairweek on-track event as produced by the Juniata County Fair is the return to the track by the nationally known Interstate Tractor Pullers Series featuring modified and super-charged turbo diesel tractor pulls that are sure to please on the evening of September 1.

 

Another 15 or more pro stock races are tentatively slated along with nearly 10 enduro dashes.

 

The pro stocks will race in a championship event in May and will be treated to twin 12-lap races in June.

 

Also visiting throughout the season will be the Keystone RaceSaver 305 Sprints for 10 shows including the two-day Blue Collar Classic Weekend program on October 11 and 12.

 

The ARDC Midgets will compete three times in 2013 including with USAC and on Labor Day.

 

The super sportsman will help close out the year with the 410 sprints and a demolition derby on October 19.
