NEW BOOKS FLY OFF THE SHELF AT MUSEUM STORE

From Bob Baker

KNOXVILLE, IOWA – Once again, books are the leading seller at the museum store at the National Sprint Car Museum during the holiday season. According to administrative assistant Lori DeMoss, “The new books about ‘Speedy’ Bill Smith, ‘Lucky’ Hershel McKee, and midget car racing in Northern Ohio in the Thirties and Forties have been very popular this Christmas season. It used to be that sprint car racing t-shirts and then die-cast cars were the hot items, but for the last five or six years it’s been books.”

“Fast Company: Six Decades of Racers, Rascals and Rods” by 2000 National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee “Speedy” Bill Smith and multiple-time North American Sprint Car Poll “Media Media of the Year” award recipient Dave Argabright is available for $30. “The Man Who Would Not Die: The Remarkable Story of ‘Lucky’ Hershel McKee – Barnstormer, War Hero, Test Pilot, Motor Racer, Scoundrel” by Stephen Olvey is available for $38. “Small Cars, Brave Hearts: Midget Auto Racing in Northern Ohio, 1935-50” by Ron Pollock is available for $25.
