Thorley In Tight Points Battle; Wanless Heads West For World Series

From jak industries.media

With six of twelve Rounds of the 2009/10 Qld Speedway Spares Series completed, ABC Auto Gear Racing team driver Pete Thorley finds himself embroiled in a tight points battle for the Series lead and well in contention for a maiden Series Title if he can maintain his consistency through the back half of the season.

Thorley, driving the team’s #51 Tyrepower/Action Metal Recyclers Eagle Sprintcar, and Peter Lack are separated by just a handful points following the most recent Round of the Series at Brisbane International Speedway, with Lack taking full advantage of the double points on offer that night to not only close the ten point gap to Thorley but to also finish the night with a slim two point lead. Thorley and Lack both stood on the podium at the end of Feature race in Round 6, with Lack’s second place finish ahead of Pete enough to wrest the lead away from him and set up an exciting prospect for Round 7 at BIS on February 20.

Pete’s ABC team mate Todd Wanless is also in the thick of the battle for the Series crown. Todd finished fourth behind Pete in Round 6 and has climbed to fourth in the Championship chase, fifty nine points adrift of the leader despite missing a Round of the Series back in November whilst competing in the United States. With six Rounds remaining, Todd’s quest for a third Series Title is still far from over.

Wanless will head west this coming weekend for the final of the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars Championship at the Perth Motorplex and is confident of a good showing at the high-speed banked oval at Kwinana.

In his most recent start at the venue, Todd set Fast Time and finished sixth against a strong field of West Australian drivers in the night’s Feature event, results he will be hoping to at least match come Saturday night’s Final against an even stronger World Series field.
