Thirty-two nominations have been received so far for this Saturday night’s seventh Round of the Qld Speedway Spares Series for 410ci Sprintcars at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway, including points leaders Peter Lack, Pete Thorley and Richard Morgan plus former Series winners Andrew Scheuerle, Darrell Hodges and Cameron Gessner.
With the Series now moving into the back half of the season schedule and the race for the Title quickly heating up between Lack, Thorley and Morgan, valuable point hauls are certainly the primary focus for these three drivers as they all chase their maiden Series Championship.
Lack and Thorley have traded spots atop the ladder following the conclusion of Round 6 back on January 23, with Lack now holding onto a very slim two point margin over Thorley while Morgan has raced back into contention with his well deserved Feature race victory that night. Morgan sits thirty points adrift of Lack but with six races remaining, including this weekend’s event, that thirty point margin could be quickly whittled away by the in-form Morgan.
Defending Series Champion Andrew Scheuerle returns to BIS this week after missing a number of races while racing interstate, as does 2007/08 Series winner Cameron Gessner who comes off a third consecutive win in the Crispy Memorial event last weekend. Both have plenty of experience at BIS and while neither is in contention for the Series Title, victory in Saturday night’s Feature event by either of these two would no doubt rob the top contenders of points and shake up the leader board once again.
The format for Saturday night’s seventh Round calls for Time Trials followed by qualifying Heat races, six lap Dash for the top six qualifiers plus a B-Main to determine the sixteen car field for the twenty-five lap Feature event. Early racing from 4:30pm with the main program from 6:00pm.
