Morgan Heats Up Qld Speedway Spares Series

From jak industries.media

With six Rounds in the books and six left to run, Richard Morgan has turned up the heat on the leaders in the Qld Speedway Spares Series and will be looking to more than just consolidate his position on the table when the Sprintcars return to Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway this Saturday night.

Morgan took full advantage of the double points offer in Round 6 of the Series at BIS just on a month ago, racing to his maiden Feature win in the #54 Morgan Metalcorp XXX Sprintcar and elevating himself to third in the standings. Likewise, Peter Lack edged Pete Thorley aside for the Series lead on the back of the double points Round – these two drivers finishing second and third respectively on the night – but it was Morgan’s victory and subsequent points haul that has really ignited the battle for the Championship as the Series moves into the back half of the season.

Morgan has been in career-best form of late and his well-deserved win on January 23 marked a long-awaited break-through for the small family owned and run team. They will know however that the job at hand is far from done, and the memory of missing a Series Championship by just a few points to Andrew Scheuerle back in 2006 will surely drive them to go one better this season if they can.

The top three have an opportunity to further extend their break over the field this Saturday night. Sitting fourth in points is Todd Wanless but his name is missing from this week’s nominations list giving Allan Woods the chance to move ahead of him in the standings. Andrew Scheuerle is back in seventh place and returns to BIS this week after some time on the road, there’s little doubt the defending Series Champion will be seeking solid results through the remainder of the Series to move rapidly up the points ladder. Darrell Hodges, also a previous Series winner, sits back in eleventh spot but given the congested points table at this stage of the Series he could move all the way up to sixth or seventh if he were to sweep the program this week.

It has all the classic signs of being a hard-fought battle for the title of Qld’s best for season 2009/10. Six Rounds down, six to go. The chase continues this Saturday night at Archerfield.
