The two day event with the USCS at Malden, Missouri turned out to be a learning experience for Jerrod Hull Motorsports. While the first night was a test and tune session, Saturday Night’s affair was for all the marbles. The team would go into Saturday feeling comfortable with the knowledge they gained on Friday for a respectable finish.
Hull would take to the track in his heat race with a tire combination that he wasn’t all that familiar with in hopes of gaining some race time experience. As the green flag dropped, the Heartland Trailer #12 Maxim leaped out to a transfer spot and Hull felt comfortable. However, after the laps winded down, Hull started getting pushed back to his 3rd place finish just one spot south of an A-Main lock.
Once positioned in the B-Main, Hull would take to the challenge and attempt to defend the SE Missouri home turf. Shooting out to an early lead, the Sikeston, Missouri native would hold on to the point as rubber began to hold evident on the racing surface. Hull would utilize the rubber-down surfaces to take charge of the event and position himself for the 16th places starting position in the night’s main event.
As the green flag waived to start the Bootheel 200, Jerrod would look for the opportunities to push his #12 Maxim designed by CK Graffix to the front. With additional rubber setting the best route around the facility Hull knew he had to take every open door possible in an attempt to defend his 2009 crown of the event. Door’s opened and experience prevailed but as the laps wound down and time ran out, Hull would only be able to garner an eighth place finish for his Champion Brand Oil lubed machine.
“We went with a tire combination that we will most likely be required to work with for the season in hopes that we could see how well our set-up will work in a race scenario. Even though it didn’t quite work the way we wanted it to for this event, I am confident that we learned enough for the season,” noted the 3 time Midwest All Star Champion. “My guys really hustled tonight making sure we had a solid car out there to compete. I think that if the track had been a little drier in the feature we could have been a top 5 or top 3 car, that’s how hard this team worked for me tonight.”
Next up for the Jerrod Hull Motorsports team will be another 2-night affair at Columbus, Mississippi with the USCS. Magnolia Motor Speedway is a 3/8-mile facility that offers up fast speeds on their dirt surface and houses one of the finest state-of –the-art amenities for both drivers and fans alike.
