PLACERVILLE, CA (3-27-10) – After strapping into a sprint car for the first time of the season one week ago, 18-year-old Alissa Geving will return to the high banks of Placerville Speedway this Saturday night for another high profile series opener.
Geving will be behind the wheel of her 410 cubic inch powered Tillet Tool-Matt Cordeiro Enterprises-Pit Stop USA sprint car for Saturday’s Golden State Challenge Series opener at Placerville Speedway. The Golden State Challenge is California’s premier race series for fire breathing 410 sprint cars. For Geving, a busy schedule in the year to come prevents her from competing in the popular campaign and two time Petaluma All Pro Series champion is looking forward to another night on the Placerville bullring.
“Last week I was feeling really good at Placerville, the set up on the car felt right and I was really focused on starting a new year ,” said Geving, who started her year in the Civil War 360 sprint car series last week. “It just seemed like I was always in the right place at just the wrong time throughout the night and I got caught up in a couple of incidents in the feature that ended our night.”
Geving qualified 16th at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds last Saturday night. After a fifth place finish in her heat race she held off a hard charging Kyle Harris in the semi-feature to secure the final starting position in the A-feature. Unfortunately for Geving she became caught up in two consecutive incidents in the 30-lap affair that ended her night with an early retirement to the pit area.
“At Placerville starting position is everything, especially when you haven’t raced their a lot,” said Geving. “The banking makes the track really fast and a lot of fun but there isn’t a lot of room to work your way up to the front when your deep in the field. This week I’m hoping we can nail our set up good again and I can turn a good qualifying lap that will carry me into the feature event.”
Although she competes primarily in 360 sprint cars in the Petaluma Speedway All Pro series and the traveling Civil War, Geving enjoys any opportunity to race in the Golden State Challenge campaign with the extra horsepower and the diverse caliber of fellow competitors. This Saturday night Geving will be one of many California Champions in competition. She will be joined by 13-time King of California champion Brent Kaeding as well as the past series royalties of Jonathan Allard, Jason Statler and many more. Another area titlist in competition will be one of Placerville’s winningest drivers and former champion Andy Forsberg.
“It’s always rewarding to race with this drivers,” said Geving. “I only get the chance to do it a few times a year and usually it’s when they come to my home track or we are at Calistoga when Petaluma isn’t running. I’m really looking forward to another night at Placerville before we start our run for a third championship at home.”
Following Saturday’s GSC appearance, Geving will then begin to focus on the 2010 All Pro Series Championship at Petaluma Speedway. She will chase a third consecutive title at the North Bay track where she could join David Lindt. Jr. as just the second driver to win three such titles.
Prior to Saturday’s event, Geving will be on hand in downtown historic Placerville Speedway to meet area fans and families at RPM Photo Studio on historic main street. Geving was invited by photographer and artist Phil Hamilton who will have much of his work on display, a must see for the race fan who has a taste for abstract racing art that features many of the local drivers. This is the second week Hamilton has volunteered his location to help promote Placerville Speedway and auto racing in El Dorado County. Track schedules will be on hand for vistors as well.
“I really want to thank Phil Hamilton for the invite to his business on Saturday,” said Geving, who is scheduled to be on hand from 1 p.m. until 3.p.m. “It’s always nice to meet new fans and I really appreciate Phil inviting us up for the afternoon, downtown Placerville is a neat little town and it should be a lot of fun.”
Geving will take to the track at 6:30 p.m on Saturday night Alissa Geving and her entire team invite race fans to visit their race hauler following the Saturday’s event and at all events in which they compete. Geving loves meeting the fans of all ages and signing autographs. She encourages youngsters to follow their dreams in life while pursuing higher education as well and is a great inspiration for youngsters.
