“SALUTE TO TEAM PRISUM: THE ISU SOLAR CAR TEAM” SET FOR THURSDAY, APRIL 15, AT THE NATIONAL SPRINT CAR MUSEUM

By Bob Baker

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (April 14, 2010) – Tomorrow night’s “Salute to Team PrISUm: the Iowa State University Solar Car Team” is set as the third program in the National Sprint Car Museum’s new Sprint Car 101 Third Thursday Series. The free and open-to-the-public presentation, which has a special Earth Day-related theme, will take place on the first floor of the Donald Lamberti National Sprint Car Museum at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 15.

According to museum executive director Bob Baker today, “I just spoke with Knoxville native Evan Adkins and he is excited about coming down from Ames tomorrow with the solar car and five of his teammates on the project. Joining electrical director Evan Adkins will be fundraising director Eric Weflen, media director Evan Stumpges, assistant project director Trevor Dobbs, outreach director Chris “Paco” Lopez and Brian Bowersox. We are very excited about having the solar car on loan to us for the next month, especially since the Knoxville Raceway sprint car racing season starts in earnest on Saturday, May 1, and our museum attendance will increase substantially at that time.”

Team PrISUm is a multidisciplinary, student-run organization at Iowa State University (ISU) which designs, builds, and races solar powered electric vehicles across the United States every few years in the American Solar Challenge. Outreach and education are also important aspects of the project as the students attempt to raise awareness about solar energy and efficient transportation.
