From J&J
McKENZIE, TN (April 14) – With the Sprint car season picking up steam, several J&J Auto Racing teams were victorious in last weekend’s action. Steve Lines scored another victory in Australia while Aaron Ott, Eric Tomecek, Ed Lynch, Jr., Lane Whittington, and Jerry Hammock won their first feature event races in 2010 behind the wheel of a J&J.
AUSTRALIA
Steve Lines continued his late season surge in the David Challons owned No. 45 H.A Young Plumbing / Camden Neon Signs Maxwill powered J&J by taking the feature win at Speedway City (Adelaide, SA). The win in the annual Champion of Champions event was the team’s fifth victory.
“Five is the most feature races we’ve been able to win in a season and the whole team is very happy with how this season has panned out,” said Lines. “Although we’ve had some disappointing runs, we’ve worked hard on bouncing back each time. In the sport of Sprintcar racing there generally more highs than low, so it’s great that we’ve been able to even that out a little.”
LINCOLN SPEEDWAY
410 Division
Teenage racer Aaron Ott had a memorable night last Saturday at Lincoln Speedway as he collected his first 410 feature event win at the famed oval. Ott raced his No. 25 J&J from the sixth starting spot and grabbed the lead following a restart on lap five. The win was well earned as he fought off a last lap battle from Brian Montieth.
“If we can get our program going a little bit better…there is no doubt there will be many more wins to come,” said Ott, following the victory. “I’m just so glad to be sitting behind a great race car and have a great family and crew to support me. They earned this because this car was spot on.”
Late in the race it looked like it was going to be a one-two J&J finish as a hard-charging Doug Esh, in the the Trone Motorsports No. 39 J&J, was coming. Unfortunately, Esh was involved in last lap battle that saw his night end prematurely.
358 Division
Ott wasn’t the only first time winner at Lincoln on Saturday. Eric Tomecek scored his first career Lincoln win as he bested the field driving the No. 11t J&J to victory in the 20-lap feature event.
MERCER RACEWAY PARK
Winning races in western Pennsylvania has been a regular occurrence for Ed Lynch, Jr. and on Saturday, the Apollo, Pa native broke a victory drought at Mercer Raceway Park. Lynch piloted his No. 2L Howard Concrete Pumping/Commercial Truck & Trailer/Mosites Motorsports/BP Trucking sponsored J&J to victory in the 20-lap main event to score his first win at the track since September 2007.
The win did not come easy for the veteran as he battled 23 year-old Carl Bowser for most of the race. Finally, Lynch prevailed with a classic slide job to take the lead.
“We were really, really close, but gave each other room” admitted Lynch. “He was really good on the outside, but I felt like I could inch up to him as my tires were really locking down. That was a really, really racey race track.”
CAJUN SPRINTERS ASSOCIATION
Lane Whittington won Saturday night’s CAJUN Sprinters Association feature event at A-1 Raceway. Whittington led a J&J sweep of the top four by driving the No. 9 J&J to the win ahead of Micheal Dupuy (No. 00 J&J, Shane Morgan (No. 01 J&J) and Brandon Olsen (No. 02 J&J).
SPRINT SERIES OF TEXAS
Jerry Hammock made an exciting last corner pass to claim Saturday night’s Sprint Series of Texas feature event at Kennedale Speedway Park. Hammock, who driving the No. 4 Outlaw Driving School sponsored J&J, chased down leader Dustin Woods to capture his second win of 2010.
