First Weekend Goes Well for Mike Burkin, Looking Forward to Racing More

By Blake Lirette

While a victory was not recorded on the opening night at Waynesfield Motorsports Park Mike Burkin and the 48 crew got out and made the show. The team now looks forward to getting comfortable and moving their way up the finishing order.

On a cold and windy Saturday evening Mike along with his father and crew unloaded the bright white 48 drawing a pill that would hand them a 5th place start in the second heat of the evening. After first trying the bottom and then the middle to top of the race track no positions were able to be gained on the extremely slick track. His fifth place finish relegated team 48 to an outside pole start in the B.

At the start of the B the inside row was able to take off a little better sending Mike into the fourth and final transfer position but after moving to the bottom during the opening laps and gradually moving to the top Mike made it into P3. As the laps clicked off he caught up to the leaders and gained a large lead over fourth. Choosing to not press the issue the 48 finished up third giving him a starting spot in 20th place.

At the drop of the green flag Mike made the choice to keep the car out of trouble in the deep traffic settling in to a comfortable pace on the still slick track. Using whatever line was available to him he began to pick off a few spots but traffic was thick and forward bite unavailable. After 25 clean laps the still bright white 48 registered in the 14th spot in the final rundown.

Burkin Motorsports would like the thank the following companies for their support, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, A La Chic Salon, Unique Portable Staging, South Creek Lawn Care, Reihle Signs and Designs, and B&K Auto Service.
