4/21/10 – Bill Balog & the B Squared Motorsports team officially opened up the 2010 season this past weekend at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI.
The night started off well as Bill turned a lap of 17.863 seconds in qualifying, which was the 6th fastest time of night out of the 31 cars present. This time would place the Buesser Concrete 17B in heat race #3, starting from 5th position. At the drop of the green, Bill started to work his way forward, after moving into 4th place, he began to try different lines on the track to see what would work the best come feature time. At the end of the 8 laps, Bill brought home a 4th place finish, which was good enough to secure a feature starting spot.
After the redraw was complete, the B Squared Motorsports 17B was scheduled to take the green flag in the 23 lap feature from position #3. Once the green flag flew, Bill started looking for ways to move up on the track. With a handful of laps & caution flags in the books, he was up to 2nd place. On an ensuing restart, Bill worked his way past the race leader to take over the lead until getting passed on the next restart. After falling back to 3rd, Bill fell in line & just began to be patient as he knew tire wear was going to become an issue. Around the midpoint in the race, Bill began to battle a very tight race car, and after getting up in the marbles he brushed the wall & came to a stop in turns 3 &4. After the crew took a look at the car, & discovered nothing major was bent, the decision was made to rejoin the field at the tail. By this time the rear tires looked more like drag racing slicks than dirt sprint car tires. Bill held on for the remainder of the race & brought home a 14th place finish.
This coming weekend the team will be back in action at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam for the 2nd of 5 IRA shows at the facility.
