VENTURA, CA – JULY 21, 2010… The Ventura Racing Association Sprint Car Series is back in action this Saturday night, July 24th, at Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway. Joining the powerful 360 sprinters will be the VRA Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Sport Compacts, USAC Junior Focus Midgets and Go Karts. The Front Gates will open at 3:00pm with Racing to start at 5:30pm at “The Best Little Dirt Track In America.”
Ojai’s Troy Rutherford won his fourth main event of the year and the LRB Manufacturing Heat Race last Saturday. The pilot of the #11 Trench Shoring / L&H Consulting entry is edging closer to his first series title and now has a 385 point advantage over Greg Taylor.
Ventura’s Greg Taylor has three feature wins in the 2010 campaign and will be looking to slice into Rutherford’s point lead. Driving the #7 Taylor Trucking & Crane Service / Four Paws Pet Grooming machine, Taylor was second in his heat race and ninth in the main event last Saturday night.
Reseda’s Kevin Kierce is third in the point standings. Driving the Fast Undercar / Direct Tire sponsored car, Kierce has one feature win on the year. The 2-time defending series champion was second in his heat race and sixth in the feature last Saturday.
Sitting fourth in the point chase is Camarillo’s Josh Ford. Piloting the #73 King Racing Products / A&A Precision Machining entry, Ford has one feature win in 2010. The former USAC National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year was second in his heat race and finished third in the main event last Saturday night.
Camarillo’s Brian Camarillo and Rick Hendrix of Palmdale are tied for fifth place in the point standings. Last Saturday, Camarillo won the Kaeding Performance Heat Race and was second in the main event in the #22C Agromin / Waste Management car. Hendrix has one main event victory on the season in the #15 Rick’s Gate Works Inc. / Wilwood Disc Brakes machine. The 1998 USAC Western Midgets Champion was seventh in his heat race, second in the semi-main, and finished eighth in the main event last Saturday.
Among the other top contenders expected to be in action are Quartz Hill’s Steve Conrad, Camarillo’s Brent Camarillo, Rialto’s Don Gansen, Reseda’s Justin Kierce, and many more.
