From Brent Sexton
(JULY 22, 2010, LAKESIDE, CA) After two weekends off, The California Lightning Sprint Car Series returns to action this Saturday night, July 24th, at Perris Auto Speedway. Joining the CLS on the program will be the Perris-Victorville North vs South Street Stock Challenge, PASSCAR Super Stocks, Modifieds, Sport Mods and Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 5:30.
Saturday’s race was originally slated to be the 1st Annual Christian Stover Memorial, but that race was changed to August 28th when the CLS will race with the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars.
Ramona’s A.J. Bender beat Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley and Guy Maresch of Anaheim Hills to win the last race in the series on July 3rd at The PAS. That victory propelled Bender into the series point lead for the first time in 2010. Kramer is second in the standings 15 points behind the leader. The point leader’s older brother, Bobby Bender, who leads the series with five main event wins in 2010, is third in the standings, just one point behind arch rival Kramer heading into Saturday’s race. Maresch and Placentia’s Dan Hillberg round out the top five in points (the top 10 are listed at the end of this press release).
1999 and 2008 CLS champion Brent Sexton of Lakeside will return to the series behind the wheel of the Chris Dickey #11. Sexton will drive the car while Dickey is away on deployment with the United States Navy.
